What a birthday
Yesterday was my birthday and this is how it went.
Woke up at 06:00 made coffee, sat down to the computer. All seems normal, at 07:00 get an email from my drivers with a video showing the steering wheel going round and round, the steering shaft had cut loose and went out. They were at the farm with a split load, the farmer broiught out some tape put it around the shaft, it was enough to get them lined up with the auger and get the first hopper emptied for his birds. Lined up the part in Dallas, the guys pulled the old part off, the farmer loaned the guys his pick up, they went to Dallas to get the part. Got back in the sweltering heat put the part back on, topped off the pick up, went to the next farm to drop the second hopper for that farmer and his birds. Got empty around 18:00 last night.
I had two loads lined up for them to get them back to Missouri, the first one I had to call Alex and Kevin at Lansing and cancel. Sorry guys and thanks for understanding, I know that a lot of times I beat up on shippers and brokers but here is one time I am not. I believe when guys are professional they deserve credit for their actions.
John from Diversified Ingredients had called and told me that our second load had pushed off until Tuesday for delivery, and that he knew that most likely that would not work for us. He helped us get another load out of Texas so my guys would not be sitting there all weekend long. Thanks John for your help as well.
This is an example of all of us working together when one is hurting and none taking advantage of the other. I believe if our industry ran more like this on a regular basis that it would be a much better place to be.
All ended well with a Bar-b-q dinner with my most wonderful wife at Gates in Kansas City. Looking into her blue eyes just seemed to take the stress of my birthday all away.
