Most companies have a hard time insuring someone under 24, now we're looking at 18 with no viable experience. Not to mention the majority of 18-29 year olds have absolutely no work ethic, heck they can't even show up (not bashing on that age group as I fall in that range but luckily I was raised on a farm where working was our hobby!) I'm willing to give anyone a chance at a job, but have little tolerance for endless excuses and tardiness. There were lazy in each generation, the problem lies in improper parenting in this PC correct world that we live in. If this law happens then it will help you fill your fleet with individuals that want to learn a trade, not everbody is cut out for college. When it happens I can send you over my program that my insurance company approved for training greenhorns. Sometimes to get the operator you want you have to train them from scratch.\n \n I look around and don't see the younger people 18 - 28 as the major problem. I was allowed to drive from Detroit to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, but not Detroit to Toledo Ohio! That makes perfect sense!!! Look at Texas, as compared to say Rhode Island, Texas is some 800 miles wide! Maybe at ages 18-21 have a radius of say 500 miles if interstate? \n \n If you ask me as a Constitutional argument, I say yes you should allow eighteen year olds to drive interstate. If you can draft them to protect your Freedoms, you better damn well be for them being allowed to make a living. But if you ask me because some Lobbyists / Carriers are trying to end the mythical driver shortage, I say NO! Let's face it, the only reason this is being proposed is to once again pervert the laws of supply and demand. There is a Wage Shortage, not a driver shortage! I talked to a may driver one day..he told me that he just got his license and they wanted to make him a trainer..what a joke..they say these schools are supposed to be better than hands on..they only train you how to fill out log books and pass the practice test..hands on..my mentor I guess today you could turn in for on job harassment..yeah they yelled a little at you..but you learned..today's trainers have just a few days more than the trainees..how are you supposed to learn the trainers experiences and what to do when its trying to hit the fan..when your in training how will you be taught good skills if the trainer isn't right there catching you trying to screw up..that's like giving a 15 1/2 year old the keys to the car..and their trainer ride in another..you don't learn anything..another thing you don't give a trainee is a good truck..that way they will appreciate that newer truck..and treat it better especially if you threaten them with that old truck..now we all have seen a few brand new driver that can drive circles around a few of these so called experienced drivers..and then we've seen new drivers who think they can..who can't even walk and chew gum with out thinking about it for a few minutes..so there shouldn't be any specific game plan but a one on one with a driver who has the know how to get a load safely and securely from A to B.in any condition..and know when to shut it down", "contentHtml": "Exactly.
