There has to be more to the story than this. Pay seemed great, but operational costs were very high as it was straight up a mountain. The end customer had problems in Nov. We ended up hiring an attorney to collect the last of the money as the customer wasn't living up to promises. Now the customer has us banned us from the property. Others have come in now and are hauling for $10-$15 per ton less and have given up the fuel surcharge that we fought tooth and nail for. These trucks now can onll haul if they have a bcak haul. To make it worse there is now a broker from florida posting these loads out of Az for $450. I know what the broker is getting and his profit is better than the truck. For a truck coming through he just looks and sees $450 on 170 loaded miles and thinks he is doing good.\n We still don't have a way to solve the problem of the greedy broker. There is one that uses the load boards that tells you they are taking 8%, but I haul the same stuff, see the paperwork and they are taking a lot more off the top than 8%, but you can't call them out by name on these forums. So how is it going to get better? I am aware of things that happen in my back yard. The rest of you probably are aware of someone like me just coming through your area on occasion and making mistakes. There isn't a mechanisim at this time for us to communicate what is going on to warn people that are unfamiliar with the area what the real story. You are correct if you have an agreement in writing then that's what the broker otta take. The reality is they should show you the original bill that they sent the customer (transparency). More than likely they will refuse and it costs more to go to court than it's worth. We need a redbook or something to rate brokers like the produce industry has. It wouldn't solve all the problems but at least then everyone could weed out the bad actors. This site has a place to rate companies we have worked for has everbody rated atleast one? WHAT IS THE BOTTOM LINE

all these truckers talking about everyone taken their money, brokers, fuel, tires, and repairs cost ect....
last week rate $850.00 for 600 miles
this week someone said they would do same load for $820.00
today $1050.00 for 800 miles
these loads are direct from the cutsomers and truckers and carriers are doing them.
i give up on tring to understand how much it costs to run a truck, we all want more money but yet someone out there is willing to run a load for the cost of what i'll almost pay just for fuel,and a driver.
its not the brokers, fuel, tires, ...ect hurting this busniess its the carriers hauling freight for $1.50 per mile
example if XABC123 Grain has a load for $1.65 per mile and gives it to Broker that gives it to a carrier for $1.45 per mile yes the broker is making money,but hauling direct for Xabc123 Grain is still cheap . when the customer can't get their product moved at that rate is when the rates will go up !
