How I Negotiated Into a New Lane and Why I Always Run The First Load
Description
About this video
Sunday Funday turns into a real-life carrier showdown. We've got a new customer — a wheat mids mill running 12 loads a day — and the incumbent carrier isn't exactly rolling out the welcome mat. They restricted us to loading after 4PM. I decided to head over at my scheduled time anyway.
In this video, I walk through what it actually looks like to run the first load at a brand new customer: navigating an unfamiliar facility, figuring out who to talk to when nobody answers on weekends, understanding how wheat mids load differently than heavier products, and why your rate NEEDS to reflect the specialized equipment required to do it right. This is the real day-to-day of running a bulk trucking operation — the highs, the lows, and a lot of sitting around waiting for the auger to do its thing.
