This Volvo Dies Every Time It Gets Warm
Description
About this video
Rob Grover bought a used Volvo as a farm truck — and now that the fleet is full, he needs it back on the road. One problem: every time the engine warms up, it throws a J1939 datalink code and quits on the side of the road. The Volvo dealer replaced a sensor; it didn't fix it. So in this episode, Rob walks through how he diagnoses an intermittent electrical gremlin himself — from Google and Facebook to ground wires, relays, fuses, and a corroded connection he thinks might finally be the culprit.
Along the way he covers the lesson that's saved (and cost) him thousands: check the cheap stuff first. He also explains why he'll never run a "deleted" truck again, how to properly seal an electrical connection so you're not back at it in a month, and why downtime — not the part — is what really empties your wallet.
Grover Farm Trucking runs a fleet of around 40 trucks out of Amboy, Minnesota. BulkLoads University is a free educational series built to help the next generation of trucking companies avoid the expensive mistakes — no tuition required.
