I had an 04 Western Star with C15 bridge engine set at 500hp with a 13 speed. I don't remember the rear end ratio. It had had the head replaced before I got it. It ran a little hot in a hard long pull. It also used some oil. The fuel mileage was my issue with it. It would top out at about 5.25mpg. I didn't keep it long for that reason. The mechanics and others who should have known more about it than me said what I was getting was common for that engine. Since then I have learned more about things to check out to improve fuel economy. There might have been something I could have done to help it. Anyway I now have an 07 Pete with 550hp. accert Cat. On my last IFTA return I got 6.05mpg. I hope to improve on that. I'm no expert but from what I've heard the top gears of the 13 and 18 are similiar if not the same. From what I understand either one is better than a 10 speed because you can run at lower rpm's between gears. Looking to purchase a 04 379, c-15, 18 spd, with 355's, air suspension.
