It's a Fresh facility, so those wait times are normal. I call ahead to the mill with an ETA. I also make sure that Wayne Farms account rep is also aware, as they commmunicate with the mills. That still does not guarantee a quick load, but in my many years experience of doing weekly loads from there, my trucks are always out by midnight on the day the order is released for. Then load you.. Expect you to be at the other end when they want you to be.. Isn't going to be happening any more. They had best learn that good old playing with the log book is a thing of the past. Do you know that every time you are passed by a policeman.. That you can be time stamped with all of the other police? If you are in one part of your state.. I ll give you an example.. California. If your in San Diego. And a CHP calls in. They will watch you the whole time you are in California .. Every CHP car that you pass, every scale.. And if you get pulled over.. Your log book had best match their times. And now with electronic log books.. Wait time in a shipper is loged as on duty not driving.. Unless you are relieved of all duties..waiting is not relieved of all duties. So the first poster.. Waiting over 14 hours.. Can't drive until he has 10 hours off duty.. These games are totally about to come to a stop. There is talk.. If you read these articles on the front page of this forum, where they want shippers, receivers and brokers to be in the food chain of responsibility of an honest true log book.. As you and I know of the CSA scores.. Those that can and do put companies out of business for being unsafe.. Will also drag in shippers,receivers and brokers for making you run illegal. Now is this a good or a bad thing? If it does happen, I bet when that truck pulls in.. It will be immediately loaded or unloaded. Or there will be demurage..or the abuse that is happening today will sure slow down . The rail road doesn't have this problem. They give you X amount of time or you start paying.. Ship companies do the same thing. And these truckers that run logs that aren't true.. Won't be in business for very long. The DOT has to many ways to figure out what's going on. If everybody would quit hauling their freight then they would not have a problem getting trucks loaded and unloaded (LOL). We understand when the customer has a problem and they get backed up. This should be a once in a while occurance. There is a particular mill in Atchison, Ks that the augers are extremely old. Now do you think the muti-billion dollar company will replace the auger or load the trucks before the trains. No way! They expect the drivers to wait without any pay, and watch out they like to load 86,000 lbs of hominy on you if they can get away with it as well. The first time we went in there the rate was $2.50 per mile, the second time we charged $3.20 per mile. The next time it will be $3.75 per mile. I will keep raising their price until they get my truck loaded within 2 hours and they do it legally. My drivers know this going in, so they understand that they will be there up to 24 hours. This is how we handle these sort of customers. When you are charging for detention in advance then you don't really care how long they take to load you. As far as the unload side of things, once you find out the customer takes their sweet a** time at that location start charging more money to go there. Let's be honest if you are getting paid then you are getting laid. I appreciate your advance warning Hutch. I have now entered them into our database as a $3.00 per mile customer the first time out, if ever. Oh by the way to all of you guys that think I am making my rates and ways of operating up.
