As a retired police officer, I dont have to have a CCL but i would definitely get the license and carry if I needed to. My wife rides with me a lot of the time. It is an added bit of safety that makes us feel more comfortable on the road especially when staying in the sleeper several nights. I would recommend to all drivers that want to carry to sign up for a CCL class and get the necessary safety and firearm training needed to be safe and proficient with their weapon. If one does not want to carry on their person, they could opt for carrying a shotgun in the sleeper as an alternative. Most states in the south, like Texas, allow for the carrying of a weapon in their vehicle while in the \"mode of travelling' (Texas Penal Code). If a person is stopped by law enforcement, it is federal law to advise the officer that a weapon is on board and where it is located when the officer makes first contact with the driver. Most all law enforcement are very gracious toward gun owners carrying their weapon during travel if the driver is forthcoming that a weapon is on board. In my opinion, it is a good idea to carry because the life you save might be your own or someone in desperate need with no other help than you! Desperate times call for desperate measures. CARRY PERMIT - OVER THE ROAD

How many of you have a carry permit or concealed carry permit? How many of you actually carry for your own safety?
