My question is Does your truck have a sleeper or are you home every night with your day cab? Are interstate or intristate? So if you only run say Texas or Kansas, ect. and you only run secondary roads you can gross 85000 lbs which is 5000 lbs 2 1/2 tons more than interstate hauling.

We run a sleeper and are going to run Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Iowa. Was looking for some feedback on what size trailer to buy to get an average load of about 27 to 30 ton.

So that would be considered Interstate dependeding on the weight of your truck I dont see you hauling more than 26 1/2 tons max. I talked with a guy yesterday that could load 53000 lbs max and he had a Centary Class Freightliner small sleeper with a 12 liter motor with a 78" 102 wide 43ft Cornhusker trailer. Unfortunatly I have a late model Western Star with a Tempte Trailer 96x78x42 and can only load 24 1/2 to 25 ton.

Being that we are going to be in the states we will be in, looking at buying a triple axle and grossing out at 85500 for kansas and 90000 everywhere else, with the empty weight of the trailer and truck being around 30000 or a bit lower.

For DDGS you should be around 2000 cubic foot to load them easily. Mine is 1779 and is a little to small. |

using the measurements you posted, I follow this formula to figure cubic feet and then cubic yards.
41 feet times 8 (figuring the insdie of your trailer to measure about 8 feet while the outside measures 8 1/2) gives you 328 square feet times 72 inches or 6 feet yields 1968 cubic feet or 72.88 cubic yards. If anyone disagrees let them say so. Might be good idea to paint that capacity somewhere on the trailer so you remember next time it matters. |

Thanks Ben, I agree with being "Nice" on the tarp, I don't understand why people buy 96 wide trailers instead of 102, i don't want to be an taller than I need to be
