We are not a shipping company or the railroad..They get durmurage after so many hours or days...Should the trucking industry get it? Yes...but then again...if you push the situation on standby or durmurage time .Most places you will need to take a picture of it because that will be the last time you are there...Also with the end of the I.C.C. we have absolutly no teeth to enforce this... So what do you do?? Count on other truckers to help?? The best thing you can do is as soon as there is an issue contact the customer and tell them there maybe a delay. Let them try to get things resolved first as they really don't like me or the driver to try to fix something with the end user. Same on our end. If you don't let us know there's an issue at the customer, we can't help get things moving. Another sometimes hidden issue is appointment times. If you have one, be on time for it. Even if our confirmation says it's open receiving, we call ahead to make sure we're not smacked with a surprise. We have open receiving at our facility, but we do require appointment times. If the appointment doesn't show, we take the next one waiting. \n \n Our drivers help a lot in that aspect. They call when they have to wait (boy do they call! LOL) but they also know how it can affect scheduling, and more directly, their paycheck. They use delivery receipts to record in/out times and try to get them signed.
