As the others can get their money from the bond...This 10,000 bond has been around for many years..It is time to up date as rates have been up dated..Now if you find a good broker that treats you good and keeps you loaded to where you are making money....Use a pair of hand cuffs so they can't get away.... Most brokers have realized that a repeat of business from a trucker will make them money..If a broker screws you ..you will not use them again so they will lose money...A shister doesn't care..he is here today and gone tomorrow...They will steal so much off that load that they have made their money... The $100,000 bond proposal is way overdue! Many carriers have not been paid for hauling those loads and the broker is gone. The majority of the brokers want to get that load moved, the cheaper, the better for them and for their client. It's sad to see what happened on the AR. to MN. run, but look again at who came out good and who didn't. There are carriers that simply don't get it and will run cheap freight and justify it by calling it a back haul. I've noticed most grain dealers have grain to be moved for pennies per bushel. They call it backhauls. I wonder the next time I pull into the fuel station if I was to inform the station attendant that I am currently hauling a backhaul and would you please give me the backhaul price on fuel today, what his/her response would be? Oh, Mr./Mrs. Insurance person, I mostly hauled backhauls this month, could you give me the backhaul rate on insurance this month? Yea, I think we all know what they would say! Brokers also like to go fishing. I observed a load going 250 miles yesterday that paid $350.00. I hauled that same load last Spring for $500.00. I now see today that same load is paying $525.00. Hmmm? Observed a load last week going 500 miles for $800.00. I hauled that load last year for $1,050.00. Two days later, that load is suddenly paying $900.00. Haven't seen it since, broker must of found somebody to take it for $1.80/mile. Last year I paid 2.79 per gallon for fuel and hauled that load for $2.10 a mile.
