Trust me when I say this: I’m the least qualified person to ever write a devotional. I’ve made more mistakes in my life than I can count. And honestly, I still question and wonder why God would want to use a poor rural America country kid with no smarts like me. But that’s the beauty of it—He chooses the unlikely to remind us it’s not about our strength, but His.
But if you were at our conference last year, you might remember me sharing that 20 years ago I started writing down my thoughts, my prayers, and then looking back to see how God answered them. That simple practice has been life-changing for me....and I promise it can be for you!
I wanted to pass that same encouragement along to others.
Why? Because trucking can be one of the loneliest professions out there. Many small owner-operators spend long hours on the road, away from family, often battling doubt, stress, and discouragement.

Along with the faith side, I’ve also included sound business wisdom from one of the greatest mentors in my life—my late father-in-law, Rob Voss. Rob was a top executive at Walmart and worked directly under Sam Walton himself. Over the years, he passed along timeless lessons about business, stewardship, and people that I’ve taken to heart.
I’ve incorporated those principles into our own companies and have watched them flourish. I wanted to pass those practical tips along to you too, because I believe faith and wisdom go hand in hand when you’re trying to build something that lasts.
