I'm think of buying a new truck wat kinda fuel mileage are the isx 500 HP cummings gutting

I was lucky to get 5 out of my ISX. I would not have a ISX or a Cummins at all. Too much BS on it a OEM problem or a Engine problem on a new truck. And anything that uses a Cummin aftertreatment system I would run like Forest.

I liked my ISX so much I took it out and put a Cat in it. I don't think the newer stuff is improved. One person in our area

hit the wrong something......One person in our area bought a new cummins in 2009 worked his butt off so he could pay it off early and sell it for a 2002. Art Pfluger

Basicly that is what I had to do. Sell my hopper that was paid off to pay down the truck. So I could trade it off to get out from under it. In three year with a new 2011 KW with a ISX I managed to wipe myself out trying to make it work. I do feel sorry for the soul that purchased because he paid a pretty penny for it. I still kick myself in the butt for trading my 2000 Peterbilt. You can buy a lot of fuel for what a truck payment is.

I got a old ford with a 3406b 425hp in it I'm getting 4.7 to 5.3 mpg I'm hearing the new trucks are getting around 8 mpg

There are no new trucks hauling 80, 000+ lbs getting 8 mpg. The best ihave gotten with a great running CAT is 6.4 averaged over last quarter. Dont get anything new than a 2003 and if you do, stay with CAT until 2007 truck models and put a PDI Stage 1 tune and n the ecm.....I love the way my truck runs and the awesome fuel mileage I get.

I have 2011freightliner glider with a S60 and I pull a tanker and pull a hopper did 6.7 the last 2 qtrs..

Build yourself a glider,the best money you can spend on a truck now. I've got a Pete 389 with a 6NZ Cat showing 7MPG overall off the ECM.

2005 isx 80000 + 700 at the ground 57 miles per hour 90%loaded I used to think that stuff don't work pull our head out of our a** you will find out

Don's fuel number is a number I could actually believe. I have 4 trucks all with different rear axle ratios. The gear ratio itself isn't as important as the final ratio factoring in tire size.

i had a 09' kw and i was getting 7.5-8 mpg pulling a hopper and reefer and had no problems

I have3.55 rears and 22.5 low pro. tires and I have a air pump so I do have some idle time included in that 6.7 average and run a 200 mile radius

Try running 58 - 62 mph. You really need a 13 or 18 speed with that rear end in order to get the fuel economy at the faster speeds.

I would advise you stay away from anything made after 2007. When they reversed the drive assembly to the rear on these new style engines they caused a lot of problems. The new style engines do have more torque, and get better fuel mileage, but they are bound to need a overhaul by about 500,000 miles. The Regen and DEF systems just do not have all the bugs worked out yet. We are waiting until we can see a new style engine run at least 1M before we think about buying one. I may be being unfair because the added torque may be causing a lot of the problems with the new breed drivers running them as fast as they can around the truck stops. But until we see them start running 1M+ we are staying away from all of them. Just to point out some of the problems that we have seen at various dealers on the new style: Drive assembly on rear goes out, takes out the Bull gear as well. Have to yank the trani to repair. Also causes the rear main to go out, same issue. Valve problems due to over-torquing the engine by the driver. The list goes on and on. Don't listen to the salesman talk to the technicians in the shops they will tell you what is going on and all of them we have talked to have said the new style engines have lots and lots of problems. The best fuel mileage in the world does no good if you are in the shop all the time.

More torque? I,v heard it all now, must be a Detroit....Those new motors are turds

got a 2005 isx 425 hp pulling hooper bottom gets about 8-9 dependind on the wind and hardly gets 4 pulling my end dump but its got side suports on it that catch a lot of wind and its got the 10 speed in it heard beelman been avg 11.2 mpg with the new petes with supper single and round nose slike sided trailers

No we don't have any Detroits anymore. Got tired of making repairs all the time. Torque is not related to how fast the truck goes down the road but on how well the truck does its job pulling freight. Those that want to continue to run down the road as fast as the equipment will run will find themselves out of business very shortly nowadays.

Yea, I know what torque is, 1500ft is still 1500ft, 1650ft is still 1650ft, how do you over torque a motor?? You must mean that they are hard on the drive line from not knowing how to drive, my 3406B will still smoke any new motor up a hill with more weight at 50mph or 70mph

Do you guy's ever think, that if you have to drive 50mph to make a cheeseburger, that maybe your doing it for nothing?? I will go broke before I will drive that slow, 60mpg to 70mpg or I will blower up right on the road....................

sometimes I wonder what are we selling, we are selling service,when you get a rate that reflects the service you provide you wont worry about mpg if you get 5mpg or 6,it wont matter,if you we are hauling product for $2 a mile then we are sweating mpg. I am not. if you want your stuff hauled for taxi cab rates then call yellow cab and see how many trips it takes.you provide $100000 worth of equipment insurance and service that's on time and dependable,your word is your bond,you do what it takes to make it happen.when will we realize what we are worth.why will guys let college kid that doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground make 25 to 95 cents a mile off our efforts and equipment because he knows somebody. dammit boys this is your show . sometimes its just better to stay at home

I agree totally, it's just hard to compete with the minimum wagers....

you should be getting a lot better than that, unless your idling all night, I can get 5.8 driving in circles all day doing local belly dump road work, 6-7mpg on the road with a hopper if driven right.

folks we have to remember we drive a big rig is no a dragster race car we pull quad axles belt trailers with my old kw with 60series and 10 speed trany I get 6 miles to a gallon so lets use the gear box and let the motor due is work like is post to do yea a 600 kitty sure be nice if you have the money go head and cruise at 75 miles an hour for me 65 miles an hour speed limit the little 12.7 very capable to do the job

Not a dragster, but I run around @ 100k every day with a 12.7 as well.. And when I get going and then come up behind a swift truck that is turned down to 25 mph and he must have watched "days of thunder" the night before, because he thinks he is going to slingshot past the J.B Hunt truck that is turned down to 25 mph as well? AND THEN... They have to ride side by side for a good 28 miles before one of them decides to back out of it... I am all for saving some money.. But some of the companies have crossed the line between pinching pennies, and being dangerous and a flat out pain in the taint to the rest of us.

I have a 2012 4 axle KW T800 with a Cummins ISX 485 hp 1850 ft/lb, 13 speed, pulling a three axle flatbed at 90,000 to 95,000. The daily run is from western Idaho to Washington. lots of up and down. 5mpg. In my previous fleet I had 35 - 2010 ProStars all with Cummins ISX power 475 hp, 1850 ft/lb 3 axle and 10 speed Untra shift, tractors. typically pulling less that 80,000 in dry van trailers. highest mpg was 7.8 from central Washington going on Montana runs. Lowest mpg was near 5.5 going to Seattle and Tacoma. likely traffic related mpg. Be sure you spec the tractor t do the job you will be asking it to do. It's likely the most important part of mpg. Then drive it right to achieve max mpg. max mpg will likely bring max tire life and lower maintenance costs, too.
