As a carrier, you need to be hazmat certified as a company, as well as yourself, and anyone else you might have working for you that hauls any. Not only do you have to worry about FMSCA, DOT and your state PUC office, you also have to deal with PHMSA and probably a few other acronyms. And if your CSA and personal PSP reports don't look good, you'll be subject to lots of inspections. Unless you have a lead on a very lucrative opportunity, the risks and headaches may be more than you want to handle. Hang on to it though; getting it back is so much more difficult than keeping it.
