Some companies pay a fuel bonus to drivers who achieve excellent fuel mileage, and some pay a performance bonus to drivers for doing what is legally expected of them. I pay flat rate on loads that are repetitive and in state. Others in the area are paying % after fuel is taken out as a way to get driver to be fuel conscience. I like the idea, but the drivers thought there were to many variables that aren't their control, so we didn't do it.\n \n I also make drivers sign a statement that they can be billed for damages to the equipment. Recently hired a new driver and when he got his first check he asked if it was for two weeks (it was for one week). He said he had never made that much before in a week pulling a hopper. He is a very happy camper. Find good paying freight, find good drivers and pay them decent and they will take care of you. I have heard drivers talk about working for companies that got paid after the fuel was taken out and they was grossing between 300 and 400 a dollars a week.
