And put more on the top of the load when you are full. It will still freeze up some in the middle. But at least you can open your traps without wreaking them. It is so nice of the coal companys to put water on it to keep the dust down. But doesn't make it fun for unloading. I picked up a load in PA when it was 40 degrees out, and took it to ND where it was 20 below. Seriously tho, if you do the salt trick as was suggested, make sure the recieving end doesn't have an objection to having added the salt. I have been chewed on pretty severely for doing that and not letting the customer know i did it. Coal or coal by product has a few different uses and you need to make sure the addition of salt for thawing purposes doesn't contaminate the load to the point that the reciever rejects it. You just want it above about 40 degrees.. Not red hot. Or get heat strips.
