Theres no worry of the driver loading heavy for his benefit on percent, or light if on hourly. However, the forums that I've read on 'rates' etc..., everyone says 'say no to cheap rates', but no one wants to share with anyone else particular negotiating tactics to get the better rates. If we say 'no' to .15 cents/bu, obviously a broker isn't going to say 'ok, how about .16?, .17?, .18? etc until we say 'ok, that will work'. As a company there is the added expense of unemployement, work comp and other related expenses, we also know that wages have to come off the top. I know of a couple O/O that some weeks that they don't put any money in their pocket for a wage because they have had to spend all their earnings back in the truck to keep it running and fuel in it.\n \n I have more than once told a broker/shipper that they was way to cheap and if they wanted us to haul for them them it would cost them 'X' amount, some say yes and some say no.\n \n Whatever you do don't run at a loss.
