Jack Hammer, Dumb and Dumber: Part 2

At the end of part 1 the phone had just rang in Mr. Shippens Cheepass office.......

Mr. Cheepass picked up the phone and started talking to Mr. Dumb Brokeragent who told Mr. Cheepass that he could get him trucks all day long for the prices that Mr. Cheepass wanted. He informed Mr. Cheepass that he had over 3000 trucks ready to roll and that he would be able to get them anytime that Mr. Cheepass needed them. Mr. Cheepass asked Mr. Dumb Brokeragent how long he had been doing this, Mr. Dumb Brokeragent stated that he had been an agent for his firm for three months now and that he had very good success taking care of other shippers' needs for the lowest price. He told Mr. Cheepass that his brokerage firm had been brokering freight for 20 years and recently realized that they could better service customers by getting them even better prices for their shipments. Now Jack Hammer was overhearing this conversation and informed Mr. Cheepass to ask him how much it cost to run a rig down the road. When Mr. Cheepass asked Mr. Dumb Brokeragent the question, there was a long pause and finally Mr. Dumb Brokeragent said, “ I don't know and really don't care.” He then stated to Mr. Cheepass that none of that mattered because supply and demand dictated what he could move his freight for, and right now there were truckers out there that would move their rigs down the road just to keep the wheels turning, He told Mr. Cheepass that he did not have to worry about the truckers' needs that he only needed to worry about theirs. Mr. Cheepass agreed and told him to send over one of his trucks and that he would be willing to pay $800.00 for 500 miles. Paperwork was exchanged and Mr. Dumb Brokeragent informed him that a truck was on the way.

Mr. Cheepass then looked at Jack Hammer and said, “I will still honor the $1500.00 load for the 500 miles as we agreed, but you surely can't fault me for using the other guys services as well.”

Jack looked at Mr. Cheepass and said, “I understand, just remember that if another individual offers my company a more lucrative deal that we will not be here to service your needs.” Both parties agreed that Jack's rate would be as stated on an as needed basis.
