LOOK AT THE SISTER LOAD BAORD MORE OFTEN...WHY ARE WE RUNNING SO MUCH CHEAPER THAN THE BULL HAULERS?
Lately I have looked at the Livestock loadboard attached to this site. Looks like T J Graff hasn't been there....Yet. In fact these people take pride in their way of life instead of been berated by someone that knows nothing about riding for the brand. Where have we gone wrong? Why are we bulk haulers hauling cheaper than these guys, by a bunch, why? They have some things harder, but not that much. Our equipment cost are pretty high, especially if you have a Walking Floor. But also importantly, the majority seem to take pride in what they do. I do wonder as to why the Forum manager allows people to post and hide behind an anonymous identity on that board? I don't like that at all, but why are we hiding from what we do? The days of running from Az to Ny taking a pill or more and running back to Az in 6 days have come and gone, even I know that. I don't, though understand why those of us who try to make an honest living feel that shuffling a pen a little have to apologize for that. I pay my taxes, I worry everyday about my drivers, I keep good equipment, but as the Bullhaulers are saying CSA 2010 could be the death of us all. No one has yet to address where we are all supposed to park? And no one has stated the obvious, why are you going to stop within 1/2 hr of home? 1 hr of home? I have stopped 15 minutes from home and slept 10 hrs, because that is what I needed. I have run !!! hrs to get home because I felt safe. Same for bad weather sometimes it is no big deal and others days you sit there watching the white stuff doing 20mph and feeling like you are going 15mph to much. Parking is an issue now what if we all complied over night? As I have stated I have run from Ft Worth to Ok City because parking wasn't available. What are you going to do? That magic DOT clock doesn't make a parking spot appear.
I love what my company does. I take pride in taking care of my customers safely, on time and accurately. I don't like bucking the cops, but I have a mortgage, equipment payments and I owe a loyalty to my employees. DOT might be here tomorrow and close my doors. I hope not, but I will push on, take pride in it, own it and hope that we can find some common ground to find a way through. I will continue to do what I have to. Why aren't we asking why a cop can pull back to back shifts ( How many hours ) and still respond at what speed to a doughnut and he also has a gun? And this is the guy writing YOU a ticket?
I have learned a ton from this forum over the 9-10 months that I have looked at it. I have seen many say they are done. This business is like racing I want to beat my competitors on the track, not because of some cheap shot. I have loaned parts to racers and had them beat me and thats the way that I want it, don't you? I have seen posts that I don't agree with, but the people posting felt that they were right and the discussion made me, at the least they make me consider a different point of view. The exception Mr.Graff. There is no longer a group looking out for us. OOIDA -- Forget it. We have to find away to unite in some fashion if we want to continue our way of life. These Bullhaulers take great pride in the "LifeStyle" Why aren't we? Where is the PASSION?
I have what most of you don't. I have a son that wants to build a business (unless racing picks up). What is it that I'm building with him? We fight the trend daily. We ARE Not compromising safety. But he gets frustrated as there aren't any his age to work with. We have just run ads... extensively... the youngest applicant... 40 something. Why aren't we worried about this trend? While I like the older guys supposed stability how will the industry survive if we can't attract younger people? Why would any young person get in with the DOT and Insurance people treating us like they do?
Instead of being baited by T J Graff, and I was one of them, lets run this forum ragged with ideas on how to preserve what we do. I have to believe that most of us do this for something other than pure financial profit. Lets be like the Bull Haulers and regain our profit and our pride. Be thankful that this forum exists.
