If you are a real carrier you are not going to be able to compete with a farm tag truck that has a non-cdl driver making $7-$10 an hour. Some of the milling companies are this way. I have brokers call me all the time wanting me to take a load and it's paying one way plus they have the rate cut for them down below what I can haul it directly for from the customer. Back hauls or not. The brokers have created this problem and the truckers and trucking companies have let them get away with it. I see every day where two brokers will post another brokers loads from a company shipping hoppewr loads. Each broker has the rate listed minus their cut. Itmay be a few cent per bushel or a few cent per ton or they may just be holding out the FSC or both. Its really getting rediculous out there. These companies would have their own trucks and put drivers in them to haul their loads but they don't dare buy any trucks. They know they can get the loads hauled cheap. I got companies I can haul for theat will pay only one way but it is at least $2.00 and the only way they will pay that both way is if they get in a bind and need the loads quick or if they have a really large amount that needs to go ahead and be moved. They may take a load down somewhere cheap and pick up a good paying load coming back also.
