hard to believe that the farmer is driving rates down. They have to go through all the same permit, insurance and state hoops that the large company does. I have a small scale farm in southeast South Dakota and run 2 trucks in the midwest, not for something to do in the winter, for a career. I would take a minute and think about what you say about the farmer the next time you take your family out for a steak dinner! First of all if it wasnt for the farmer you wouldnt be eating steak, second if your eating steak, the rates are not that bad, are they? The only thing that farmer is doing is forcing you to actually try instead you just excpecting the load to be dropped in your lap with the shipper saying \"name your rate\"! I am really new to this business and have learned a lot of truths the hard way, one of them being if it doesnt pay, it doesnt go in my trailer. Another one being that somebody is going to blame somebody. Not that long ago there was a big debate about how the brokers are to blame for cheap freight, now its the farmer catching crap, next month it will be somebody else. The way I see it there is only one person to blame, the carrier. We can all sit in the truck and blame somebody for the load we are hauling not paying, but im positive that the person you blame is not forcing you to haul it.
