RESULTS FROM: WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER "CHEAP" FREIGHT SURVEY

We had 128 users take our survey. The results are listed below. Thank you all who participated.

1. What do you consider "Cheap Bulk Freight"?
$1.00 - $1.20 per running mile 29.0% 29
$1.20 - $1.50 per running mile 52.0% 52

$1.50 - $1.80 per running mile 44.0% 44
$1.80 - $2.00 per running mile 18.0% 18

Additional responses
-Really anything under 2.00 is too cheap, but it seems thats the perceived "going rate".
-Minimum Half the cost of fuel per running mile.
-Anything less than 3.50 per mile


2. How many miles do you typically "bounce" empty between loads?

-Most of our loads are set to bounce back for another load

3. How much free time do you allow before charging demurrage or detention?

-I have neveer been paid for waiting.
-We have tried to charge but no shipper has ever been willing to pay!
-If they don't pay it I don't haul for them again
-none commodity shippers refuse to pay
-Good Luck getting it.


4. What is the break even cost per mile for a carrier today?

-everyone is diffrent ours is around 1.60 a running mile
-If you consider adding health insurance, retirement, return on investment it is much higher.
-as of today with fuel is 1.65 for me
-12 truck company our break even is around 2.00 right now.

5. What is a fair rate per mile a load should pay today?
$1.50 per running mile 2.4% 2

-times have changed and the rates need to also!
