Now I don't know if the broker that you mentioned is doing so, I have never worked with them. At this point with what you are saying and others as well, that would make them suspect of such a thing. These types of individuals need to be posted on the ICG wall of shame, that is kinda like our Carriers 411 on the brokers and shippers that are dishonorable in their dealings.\n \n Those that are dishonorable really need to be gone from our industry, I saw this same thing go on in construction with the bankers, and the real estate brokers, we all know how that turned out. So, I'll explain how this works... I'll use Cargill for my illustration... Let's say CARGILL has a load of feed goinf from Houston, Texas to Orlando, Florida. They have a daily list of all OUTBOUND loads that eacg BROKER has access to. So let's say 10 brokers are setup to haul for them, then all 10 brokes have those loads available to EACH of them. So each broker will post the SAME exact load in hopes that they can get it covered... Of course, Cargill has generally already set the rate or has it open for submittals... So let's say Cargill set the rate at $40.00 a ton... Well, each broker knows that the load pays $40.00 and will take their brokerage fee out and say post the load for $35.00 a ton... but 5 of the other brokers are lowballing the load and offering it for $30.00... then one broker has it forr say $25.00 a ton... This is PEFECTLY legal because they (brokers) are under no obligation to offer a load at a set rate... although some ONLY claim to take 10%... but how would we know? It's all a matter of HONESTY AND INTEGRITY versus anything else... and well you know how far that goes these days...So that is why you see multiple loads posted.... because the shipper has a relationship with MULTIPLE brokers and doesn't care who moves it... they just need it moved... Now double brokering is when one broker has the load and ANOTHER broker gets the same load and book it... in actulaility, he's covering the load for another broker that was assigned to covering the load.... BUT, if this bothers you guys then just put on a pair of slacks, a nice shirt, a tie, and a pai of shiny shoes and go searching for your own freight... Otherwise your at the mercy of the guys that did bring the shippers doughnuts and cakes to get the work in the first place. I'm a driver just like you guys and everything isn't fair in our line of work... that's just the way it is and it isn't going to change... if you want to cut out the middle man (brokers) then you'll have to do the footwork yourselves... and in all honesty, most shippers won't talk to you because you'll need a bond and insurance to cover any mishaps that may happens after the load(s) are booked... and why bother with that when BROKERS assume all that responsibilty when they contract/partner with the shipper....
