The last time I checked, we were willing to do whatever it took to feed those mouths. All this mess could be fixed, but you can't get more than 2 people to agree on anything. There are a lot of variables like short haul, regional haul and long haul. I personally don't dead-head too much (14%) so I grab those 150 mile short hauls if it gets me closer to my next long haul. By operating this way obviously lowers my total miles, but increases my revenue per miles, so if I did average $2.00 @ mile I may only have run 40-50,000 that year with a lot of waiting time. I think the average long haul operator with dead-head included is around 1.60 @ mile,all miles. They have been real fair with us. Last quarter with maintenence issues for 4 of those weeks, my husband still ran 29,545 miles himself. We are staying above the $1.60/m average for ALL miles. My husband has been driving a truck for over 20 years, however only pulling a grain wagon for 3 years. His questions are 1. Is anyone truely averaging $2/m for ALL miles going through a broker?...ALL meaning odometer miles... 2. Are you telling the truth? 3. If so, will you share your broker's phone number?
