Keep in mind that most of the midwest has had a drought this year that means that a lot of guys that haul grain year round are going to be looking for work to do. Several ethnol plants and meal plants have slowed or shut down. We have already seen trucks from MN and IA in our area hauling broked loads of grain 100 miles having just unloaded 40 miles away after hauling in grain from 100 miles away. These are trucks that in a normal year won't even load grain, but because of shut downs of meal plants they are doing other stuff.\n \n I have heard that there is a demand for hoppers in LA right now because of the river being low and barge traffic being cut back because of the low river. I thought I had wasted a lot of time waiting to load and unload pulling a dry van. It was not uncommon to waste 5 to 8 hours waiting to load or unload with the hopper. Sometimes more. Like arriving to load at 1pm and getting loaded at 2am.\n Like the others said you have to have the right connections to stay busy and even better ones if you expect to get loads that pay worth anything.\n I had been pulling a dry van for a couple of years. And before that a flat till flatbed freight collapsed in 2009 or so. Flatbed is much better now.\n I traded my hopper for a new flatbed back in December.
