This is STUPID!!!!
I called about a load, that a shipper had posted. I work with them almost every week. The load orgin is close to us and it was 760 loaded miles. I thought it would be good to get one of our trucks started next week. My contact told me about the load details. The 1st load is a test load to make sure the receiver can use the damaged beans. If they can use the beans it could turn into 35 more loads. Then he started laughing when the rate came up. When he posted the load, one of the first persons that called gave a $1 per bushel rate to use for his backhaul to MN. The shipper was amazed that he got such a low rate and gave the load to him. A few minutes went by someone else called and tried to under cut the $1 rate.
This is the reason we hear the words backhaul rate!! Here's the math on it. Assuming he has a hopper and gets 850 bushels on its $1.12 per mile. 900 bs is $1.18 a mile.
Crap like this hurts the whole industry.
