I thought that was on the light side for miles. They had decent tread on them yet, but were starting to chop pretty good on the shoulders. The tire shop here in Norfolk said the manufactures are adding compounds to the tires now to lower resistance, causing less drag, thus increasing fuel mileage and the life of the tire. We are using that St244 like you are, but have tried a lot of others. I recently put the Centrmatics on one truck on the steer and it did seem to improve the problem, but not enough for the cost of the tire. I have Centramtics on all axles on one truck now and it seems to help that truck. Put equalizers on the drivers of one truck and that has helped a little, but I hate the way they look. We have had the trucks aligned and have done everything that we can to get the mileage up on all of our tires and at best it is little increases. One of the biggest changes has been our usage. Went from Mountain driving all day every day to an OTR situation and that has made the biggest change of all. \r\n \r\nAny other suggestions out there? \r\n \r\nArt Pfluger", "parentReplyId": null, "thumbUrl": "", "avatarThumbUrl": "https://s3.amazonaws.com/cdn.bulkloads.com/user_files/profile/thumbs/default.png", "signUpDate": "2010-12-05", "dateAdded": "2012-01-11T21:09:01Z", "likes": 0, "dislikes": 0, "approved": 1, "userId": 3266, "firstName": "ROSE", "lastName": "PFLUGER", "companyName": "ROAD WARRIORS TRANSPORTATION INC", "email": "[email protected]", "city": "MORRISTOWN", "state": "AZ", "userCommentCount": 804, "userLikes": 10, "userDislikes": 4, "links": [], "files": [], "iLike": 0, "iDislike": 0 }, { "replyId": 28354, "content": "For some reason the sellers of centramatics won't tell you is that you need to have the tires balanced before the tired are put on with the centramatics..they will then help keeping the tires balanced...if the steering wheel shakes it is the front tires..if your but shakes in the seat..it is the drives that are out...also think about putting nitrogen in the tires..your pressure will stay up longer..nytogen is a thicker part of air..not like the thin gases..such as helium etc. Also there is a powder that you can put in the tire called equal..some like..some don't...the tire guy if he doesn't use enough lube when mounting the tire on the rim..might put the tire a little off as the tire will have friction..or grab a little on one part..throwing your tire out of round..Check and see if there is enough grease on your 5th wheel..that will grab for just a second in turns and not let the trailer track properly...or the trailer tires might be out of alignment..we always forget about that on trailers..or if you don't pull the same trailer.....an easy thing to do there is drop your trailer, get about 40 ft of string, a nail, broomstick and level...put the nail into top of the broomstick,cut off the nailhead...stand the stick under the kingpin..there is a center point(dimple) in middle of the kingpin..attach string to stick..use the level to make the stick level..have somebody take other end of the string and go to a common place on the first tandem..if off..take to an alignment shop..if good alignment the string will be the same from left to right...and then again..the front end need to be greased well...when we all get busy..we tend to forget about greasing....Ohhh I'll get it done next week...most of Hesse truck stops will put more grease on the outside if the fitting that inside...if you do it..you are under your truck and can see what's happening under there..plus you know that the grease is going inside the fittings...With the cost of tires going sky high, we just can't erase them going down the road.. We use Nitrogen in our race tires because it is drier, so I have worked with that as well. Everything we own has been aligned. I was at a MHC dealer in Mo a while back and they had some devices that were meant to center the brake drum and another part of the device that was meant to center the wheel. The thought was that the hub doesn't do a good enough of centering the assembly. Has anyone tried these ? This starts to get as crazy as fuel enhancers, if we bought them all we could make fuel !! At what point are we doing the same with these devices?\n \n I recently had a bad vibration. Had another vehicle follow and even though I was sure it was a drive tire it turned out to be a trailer tire. Since we are doing better at checking the inner wheels for mud.
