Dou to recent accidents and alleged road call complaints from motorists my dm has informed me that we may have to hire someone to follow some of our more troublesome drivers. I have installed forward only facing dash cams on some of my trucks but not all of them yet. The problem I'm having is that the behaviors being complained about are not enough to trigger the dash cams in most circumstances. I have looked into hiring some of these firms but am not sure if I am being too intrusive. Has anyone had to do anything of this nature with their drivers and if so how did it work out? I dont want my company to be one of those that creates driver insecurity and high turnover. I try to treat everyone with integrity and in my opinion have a good crew that I take care of well. I also wonder if some of these calls we are getting are from former employees that are disgruntled and are seeking something out of attempts of slander? When I say more troublesome drivers I do not mean bad drivers, more just not as much common sense as more experienced drivers. Drivers that go through more tires and require more attention in the shop. We work scrap yards which is very hard on equipment and is demanding of a driver. My insurance carrier is requesting more follow up attention dou to 2 accidents that had happened recently. I have sense put speed limiters on all of the trucks as well as ordered them on my new trucks we are getting next month. Getting back to the original point I wonder if the expense is worth the gains/ recourse of hiring a private surveillance company. The cost is high and it is not garaunteed that the trucks will be monitered at times of question. I am in the process of revamping and expanding by 50% over the next 2 years and need a cost effective solution to keep everyone on the road safe from my drivers to fellow motorists. I would like to know what others are doing that has worked and not worked.
