I don't expect the same quality of workmanship from a big builder that I do from the custom builder. I don't expect the cheap tools from those discount places to be the same as Snap-On, or Matco. My insurance just went up by 3%. Shop cost are going up. Fuel is going back up. My thought is that we only need to beat what a shipper can do it for themselves not what each of us can do the job for. First time since January because I had to have back surgery for a herniated disc. Rolled through most of Iowa on Thursday on I80 and I29 running 70-75mph and atleast 6 times while going around trucks in the slow lane I had to cross the yellow line to avoid getting hit by the truck I was passing. It wasn't even windy enough to affect driving that day and it wasn't just dry vans. The quality of drivers on the roads these days are frightening. We decided to put dash cams on our trucks in January and after that trip I am glad we did. Hopefully if someone crosses into me the camera will show I did all I could to avoid the incident. Also while at the truck stop had a guy come up and asked if it was diesel in the pump he was pulled up to. He could barely speak the word diesel and obviously couldn't read diesel in English on the pump. If he can't read that how the hell does he read road signs? We are pulling together to make this work, my guys understand and we have all tightened the belts by a few notches. There are companies going by the wayside each and every day, the Mega Carriers now have a waiting list of guys trying to lease on with them. The economy is in the pooper, the first thing to take the hit is us. We are expendable and replaceable, there will be a whole new group of drivers pop up to drive for cheaper rates when they get laid off from the factories. Which is more important?

Quality of service?

Cheapest Price?

We should all know that you can't get both, it seems that customers want the cheapest price and expect the same service. That is total BS and we should all know it. I don't expect the same quality of service at a fast food restaurant as I do a fine dining establishment. I don't expect the same quality of workmanship from a big builder that I do from the custom builder. I don't expect the cheap tools from those discount places to be the same as Snap-On, or Matco. Why then do customers in trucking expect the same quality of service when they don't want to pay the price?
