Recurring lane - SoCal to Cedar Rapids, IA - non-haz chemical, ~10 loads/month - looking for carrier interest
Posting to gauge interest and get a realistic read on what this lane costs before we commit to it.
We're California Transit Services, a carrier and bulk liquid transload terminal in the San Gabriel Valley. This isn't a broker rate-shop , the product comes out of our own facility, and we're looking for a tank carrier to handle the over-the-road leg. Being straight with you up front: this is being priced, not yet awarded. Our customer is deciding between truck and rail. I'd rather tell you that now than waste your time.
If it moves, it's steady, year-round freight.

- How would you prefer the pay structure? Flat per load, per loaded mile, or round trip?
- Do you have anything coming out of eastern Iowa or the upper Midwest back to California? This is the question that matters most. If you're deadheading 1,835 miles home, say so and price it that way, I'd rather have an honest empty-return number than a low quote that falls apart in month two.
- Is tank wash included in your number or billed separately? And where would you be washing?
- Free time at load and unload, and your detention rate after? Our end is a controlled transload, so we're quick. The consignee end is still being confirmed.
- Fuel surcharge basis and where it sits today.
- Could you actually sustain 10 loads a month on this lane, and what's your lead time to start? I'd rather work with one carrier who can hold the volume than stitch together four who can't.
- Any surcharge for the corrosive service or the California origin? Tell me now rather than on the first invoice.
