CDL physical-sleep apnea

Jun 19, 2017 at 03:53 PM CST
I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and insomnia 5 years ago. The CPAP machine saved my life. I would not be here today with out it. I got my 1st physical today under the new rules. I wanted to give anyone that doesnt already no some helpful tips

If you think they will want a sleep test: Dont wait until the day your phsical expires to renew it.
He didnt tell me the measurement but they will measure your neck.
The sleep test has to be scheduled and they are weeks out.
if you already have a machine, schedule appt to have your card read and get a printout before you get your phisical
CPAP machine can only be read by a sleep Dr.
if your machine doesnt have a card, supposedly they can read it some other way.
Sleep apnea CDL holders have to have a sleep Dr. checkup annually.
DOT will require CDL physical annually once diagnosed with a sleep disorder
They only look at last 180 days of use
you have to use it 70% of the time or more
4 hour per session minimum

I wasted most of today learning this the hard way.

Does anyone no the neck measurment? Or have anything that needs added or corrected?

It's been 5 years since I had mine done. I believe neck size is over 17 inches.

if you need your medical card renewed, google "driver friendly doctors" . it will list doctors who understand the dot regulations and are registered to give medical exams. i live in the midwest and needed to drive a couple hours to the nearest doctor, but it was well worth it.
