When I first heard about corona virus, I thought it was a joke. Our area has joked about corona virus for decades because there's a popular local bar in Corona south Dakota, and after you go there, you feel like crap the next day. When I was 21 I used to get Corona virus 4 or 5 times a week thanks to the wildlife bar and grill.

On the serious side, my sister is a nurse, and told me it is more dangerous than most of us think. But the toilet paper freakout doesn't make much sense

Really, this should be a wake up call, for why it’s a really bad Idea to have everything made in some other country. It also shows what happens, when people can’t afford health care, you are only as strong as the weakest among you, gated communities and body armor are useless against disease.

No it's not really that serious more people will die from the regular flu. 3 million men die of heart disease every year and so do 3 million women. But you don't see us getting excited about it. I bet more people in minnesota will die of the regular flu then this virus

That's true. But statistically corona virus is 10 times deadlier than the flu. EVERYONE gets the flu. Very few die from it as far as a percentage goes. Waaaaay less people get corona virus, but the percentage that die from it is 10 times higher. The reason its concerning is that it's only a few months old, and can live on an un treated surface for 14 days, and live airborne for 3 hours. No it probably wont affect most of us, and the hoarding and "preppers" are an embarrassment to our country, but not taking it seriously is just as embarrassing in my opinion. Anyone familiar with the struggle the triage nurses had in the Vietnam war? They are making those same decisions on the hospital beds in Italy. Yes, I thought it was absurd that south Dakota closed all the schools, but then again, my kids aren't sick, so good job America for getting after it.

Oh my god, its a scare tactic to destroy the economy right before the election... Are you sheep or are you free thinking truck drivers who realize that right now we have a bargaining chip to get the elds out of trucks.. that we have the power to have these stupid regulations dismissed.. Its time we shut down for a week hell 2 days and sit back and watch how the industry changes in our favor..

Randy are you saying that you think this is made up? And all of the medical professionals are in on it? The general public's opinion is more relevant than a doctor or infectious disease experts opinion? Its honestly not a big deal right now because medical professionals are doing their job to stay ahead of it....or maybe I'm part of the sheep conspiracy too?? Nothing personal randy. I trust truckers opinions on transportation, I trust my doctors opinion on sickness.

I am saying that its not as deadly as sars, its not as deadly as the typical flu.. but there impeachment bs failed and they said right after any means necessary they would remove the president.. Now think about this have you last nov or maybe December gottem sick maybe started out with a sire throat, a slight temp you thought you had a tough of the flu.. had a bad cough 7 to 10 days later you were feeling alright you just had that nasty ass cough you go to the dr they say you got bronchitis but in reality you just had Corona and guess what your fine..

Cant argue with most of that. Granted I dont believe anybody in government is remotely intelligent enough to create a virus to impeach the orange man. You're right, you and I could very well have had it and are fine. Doesn't change the fact that I'm going to be cautious. I have people in my community fighting cancer, I have a toddler at home. They aren't asking us to donate a kidney, they are asking us to wash our hands and avoid crowds. I'm skipping out on my favorite holiday today to be cautious so I don't get someone sick that already has a compromised immune system. Its not a big deal to me. I think its respectful to others . Anyhow, thats my rant. Happy st Patty's day, enjoy a Guinness or two, the alcohol should kill the virus

There is only one problem with that randy, this pandemic only strengthens the case for bringing industry back home to America, because it shows how vulnerable America is, when supplies from some other part of the world get cut off, for ANY number of reasons, disease, war, etc. Prior to this event, that conversation would have fallen on deaf ears, but now we can have it, and it will help trump more than harm him. I understand why people may think this is politically driven here at home, but it’s hard to believe that every nation around the globe, would intentionally crash their own economy, because they don’t like our president, especially when the world never Agee’s on anything, it would be biblical, in wich case you have to ask some other questions.

Eric,I made it clear it was just my opinion when I said "just my opinion". If my opinion is wrong, so be it. I just don't think its tyrannical to ask someone to wash their hands. But if it is, maybe we should all meet up and dump our purell into the boston harbor to fight back against this cleanliness.

"Last year, China accounted for 95 percent of U.S. imports of ibuprofen, 91 percent of U.S. imports of hydrocortisone, 70 percent of U.S. imports of acetaminophen, 40 to 45 percent of U.S. imports of penicillin and 40 percent of U.S. imports of heparin, according to Commerce Department data. In all, 80 percent of the U.S. supply of antibiotics are made in China."

Let THAT sink in for a minute! In 2045 this country is going bye-bye in a major way. Whoever isn't ready will get whatever they deserve.

Personally I think things are over played right now. I am 53 years old and lived through MANY pandemics, end of the worlds and various other things that were supposed to scare the hell out of us! I remember as a kid, my mom telling me to get my ass over to the neighbors and play because they had chicken pox and she wanted me to get done with this crap! We drank from a garden hose, went to the garden, pulled a carrot, wiped the dirt off of it and ate it! These things today would be child abuse! We have raised a generation of hypocondriac people who cringe at the first sign of illness! As far as I can tell, life is going to go on after the scare as it did before the scare and to totally stop life because you might get an illness is over reacting! Maybe it is just me, but I have had a good run and if the rona gets me, then so be it! I will not stop living, working, doing my day to day routine just because someone is scared!

Let's now look at our brothers and sisters on the road. Restauraunts shut down. Can't walk up to a fast food drive in and order a meal! But it's ok for the truck to drop off the supplies needed to run these places! Shippers and receivers with skeleton crews, if any, causing a slow down that I have not seen in the 30 plus years I have been in this industry! I feel sorry for my drivers EVERY day that goes by with this going on! This job is hard enough without having a pandemic shutting off everything! Right now, everyday feels like being on the road on Christmas day! I know a lot of you know what I am talking about. So what do we get as a reward for going to work while the rest of the world goes home? Kicked square in the nuts with lower rates because " there are to many trucks right now"!

Drivers are now able to throw away the hours of service if you are hauling supplies for the corona virus, things to restock store shelves and various other things, but not for the bulk side! Do they think that the cattle, chickens, pigs, sheep and all of gods other animals will stop eating because there is a pandemic scare?

I guess I just don't get it!

The total lack of consideration for the Trucker during this fiasco is only evidence of the incompetence of those that regulate us. Now they want to treat us like heroes while they continue to make our lives miserable. One thing that I did learn is that a very brief shutdown would cripple the country.

Agreed. There's a whole bunch of suckers lining up to be hauling heroes too. Seems like they all have the Battered Wife Syndrome. I'll drive my truck off a cliff before I move a single piece of freight for this debacle. You're also totally on point with how vunerable and weak this country is. It's beyond sad when we have to declare an emergency for something as pitiful as this. Even more alarming is how China has almost complete control of our entire antibiotic supply and nobody even bats an eye over it. How ass backwards is that?! A Red country that hates our system can just blow us over with the flu and take control. Pathetic. It's coming. I hope you're ready.

I never thought of it that way. China sneezes on US and our economy goes with the wind. What I find interesting is china isn't announcing any new cases.??? And Italy's health is supposedly hanging by a thread and they have the epicenter of the bug now.

Brenden, you gave good information about your available load; however, you should have included the load and drop locations. The rate at approximately $4.32 per mile is decent. You're out of P.A. Is Philly the P/U city? We usually run the Chicago area towards the "right" coast.

The government's plan to dole out money to everyone sounds like a good idea; however, Roosevelt did this during the depression and it only added fuel to the fire with economics in the country. The only thing that really brought us out of the depression was increased manufacturing to help Europe at the beginning of WWII and then our going to war. Good God, I'd hate to see us go to war with anyone. Been there, done that!
