I have worked with some very competent dispatchers that are knowledgable, experienced, etc. Most of them never had to take a "course".

I've also been contacted by quite a few that have asked questions such as: "How long does it take to get from Detroit to Chicago?", "Does your load (bagged & palletized rice) need to be put in a reefer (one guy constantly spells it REFEER)?" and "What do factoring and HOS mean?" Yes, someone who says they are a legitimate truck dispatcher with multiple carriers has to ask those questions!

These opportunists selling fly-by-night dispatching courses to folks who have ZERO experience in the trucking industry, especially those in foreign countries who speak very little English (let alone spelling and grammar) and have no clue about the geographical US, do nothing but cheapen this business; In addition, claiming it is also a great "side hustle" and embellishing the amount of money that can be made quickly.

I have heard the empty threats many times over and over again that this will be investigated, or whatever, by the FMCSA, and whythey have still not intervened and addressed this, I simply don't understand...

I totally agree. Unless I missed it somewhere, the author of the article was not mentioned anywhere. I wonder why? Probably because they are a dispatcher trainer, or dispatcher.. The quote: "A dispatch trucking company is an essential behind-the-scenes player in the operation of your fleet."No, not so much, but that's just my opinion. I don't see the value in paying another commission on top of the one I have to pay the broker who has the load in the first place. Hell, I can do that myself pretty easy. They must be a good service for some people because there are a bunch of them popping up.

It's so much easier to bust the balls of the working man than to deal with a professional thief and con artists.

Yes, the author of this article was probably was one of those who are offering courses- I keep asking many of these "dispatchers" why they went into this and the most common answers are the "earning potential" and that they can work from home.

When I talk to people you can tell who has been in or around the trucking industry. I've been in and out for 20 + yrs. Its kinda irritating talking to someone thats not experienced. Some actually try. I'll help them if I can and explain things to them. Simple stuff such as HOS and attempt to explain some of the headaches drivers have to deal with. I would prefer to talk to someone that used to be in the seat but now rides a desk like me.
