Trying to figure out a proper rate I can post on an add based on the way I am calculating PnL but it really ends up coming down to tonnage. Currently, I have estimated 25-27 tons for interstate movement for grains, can someone confirm this? |

If you have to ask that question you should probably go back to the general freight world....

I wholly agree with this ^^ I'm still going to go against my better judgement & answer your question: Call truckers and ask them what they would need to haul your lane. They will all have differing answers, because operating expenses are never the same; but they will be close enough. Their answer will generally be to always figure 25 tons on everything going everywhere, but especially on interstate. If a truck has the ability to haul more then they should carry those profits. They paid extra for the equipment, maintenance, and permits to do so. If you are coming over to the industry with good intentions, then I hope what I said helps; but if you are coming over to wreck this economy then I hope this information falls on deaf ears. The hopper industry is already in shambles, and people coming over with big aspirations of striking gold are going to find out real quick that you can't bleed a year dead hog. |

I appreciate the response and I fully intend to pay a fair and just market rate. The industry is definitely an important support structure of the agricultural and transportation markets and it's important to treat it and the folks within with respect. |

The key here is "market rate". Ever changing. It takes time and effort to know. |
