Losing Fuel prime

I had severe issues with my Cummins getting it going some mornings. Then a friend told me to take the fuel tank vents out and put a regular fitting in from hardware store and my problem has been fixed since. Not bad to fix that issue with $10 in parts.?? My only explanation is the vent must've stuck and with the hot fuel cooling off overnight it put a small vacuum on fuel system and drained fuel filters back to the tank. Just thought I would pass this little nugget of shade tree experience along for anyone that has this issue.
