moving a truck from idaho to texas

We have a emi truck already purchased at the dealer in Idaho. We need to get it to Texas to get registration and tags. If we drive it without a load, do we have to get state permits?

Your buyers tag should cover moving the truck back. California has a $5 permit I had to buy there to bring a truck back. I bought a truck in Georgia and the buyers tag covered me from there to Texas.

Depending which way you move the truck..wyoming will sell you a permit at the port..tell them you are less than 26000 lbs..new Mexico might want you to buy a permit..its more about paying the fuel tax than anything...if you are worried..buy a trip permit in each stste...including texas..they aren't much.. And a lot cheaper than paying the fine plus buying the trip permits..you also need proof of trucking liability insurance..
