That's All I got in it!

Yesterday, after I came back from my run to Wichita and back with the dry van. Jason Weast had came up and hung out with me and helped me with my run the previous night. We were heading out for lunch, (if you guys ever have Jason help you out just remember to keep him fed really good), a broker called me and asked if I would take a load for $78.00 per T. Jason ran the number pretty fast, I asked the broker if he had a return load, he hesitated and said no. I then told him lets make this easy and just double up on the $78.00 per T and I would hook up to the hopper and run it. He said he could not do that, Jason came back with well you are only offering $1.70 per mile one way. The broker came back with “That's all I got in it”. I told him that I had a customer paying me more than that for a dry van round trip and I am using their trailer. I then asked him why would I want to hook up the hopper for less than the dry van? He had no response, so we agreed that I could not do the load.

Here is where it gets funny, about five minutes later Jason gets and email from the same broker for around $83.00 per T for the same load. All I got in it!!!! Jason and I just started laughing our heads off, now it may be because we were up all night but I believe we were laughing at the “That's all I got in it” expression the broker used.

We had a great lunch with one of my drivers, then Jason and I went back to my place and fired up the computer. We went to my load boards for dry vans and Jason proceeded to have a little fun looking for him some loads for next week. Within 5 minutes he found two loads that paid round trip money from Joplin, Mo – St. Louis, Mo – Kansas City, Mo, and I assured him we could get loads back to Joplin or Springfield all day long for the same rates. These loads that he negotiated were much higher then the hopper rates that are being offered currently in the market.

Jason hooked up to one of my dry vans and headed back home, I then headed out to the Gun N Roses concert with my wife. Watch out dry van world Mr. Jason Weast is coming your way, just make sure you don't try and screw him over and you will be fine.

All I got in it, wow you got to love that one right there. I put that one right up there with rates are cheap because the price of fuel is down.

I'm still gonna pull hopper 1-2 days per week. There is a ton of short stuff under 250 miles around. I've told everyone so far don't call me if load pays under 2 hub, and actually a few said they can do much better than that. So I guess I am a part timer hopper boy, until someone under bids
