The consequences of recap tires!

I try to maintain a positive attitude lately in this crazy world but today made me laugh and shake me head. Dear people who run recap tires....you cost time and money for everyone else on the highway. I see crews out beside the interstate picking up your rubber all the time. Today someone threw a cap in front of me eastbound out of St Louis. No room to avoid the damn thing and it ripped the shutoff valve right out of my fuel tank. In 5 years of running my own truck I've never once been broke down beside the highway so I was due and road hazards are part of the game, but here's where I'm frustrated. That cap broke me down, caused me to lose a pile of fuel and before I got stopped that fuel sprayed up on my cargo, a 50000 pound chunk of granite that now is at risk for being rejected. Your cheap tires have consequences for me, the poor guy out here helping me thread out a busted fitting from a half inch diameter stream of fuel at 7pm, and consequences for my shipper and their customer! Now where I laughed. Somebody actually ran over one of my road flares. How they did it without rear ending me is impressive! Make recaps illegal.... and people who drive RVs should have to pass a cdp

It also help a lot if people do an actual walk around before taking off. Most likely that tire failed because the last time the pressure was checked was when it was installed.

Poor maintenace is poor maintenance. A tire monitor is one of the best purchases I've ever made. I run wide singles and have run caps a time or two on a liftable axle and got along fine.

Many foreign drivers carry two spares in the "rack"...?!

I love this post! I don't run recaps because the sidewall of the tire can get pretty beat up in the time it takes to wear out the original tread.

Following to closely. Recaps almost always fail due to low pressure same as regular tires

Yep, recaps fail from under inflation, over inflation, perfect inflation, too hot, too cold, partly cloudy!! And for all I know the truck blew the cap half a day ahead of me. Eastbound out of St Louis at about 5pm. Cap came out from under one of the 17000 cars that passed me and merged back in with 3 inches to spare like Richard Petty. Stop making excuses for your friends. Make virgin rubber great again!!

12 new China tires on the hopper trailer within 20 weeks chunks came off 3 1300 replacement tires until warranty covers them. Always heck the pressure. Tires say 120 psi on them. After a 125 mile haul. You cannot you have the rim and tires for heat.
the Firestone drive tires are cool to touch

see a lot of uncapped tires along the road

yrying to find usa tires
