110k lbs on a tandem truck and trailer??

Jan 30, 2023 at 07:33 AM CST
There are some guys hauling loads out of cargill and they are grossing 110k plus and have a tandem axle truck and trailer. Now cargill won't let you out 1 pound overweight so they've got to have a permit. My question is how are they getting a permit for that much on a tandem? Highest I've seen is 90k

Depends on tandem spacing and tires. I've called and talked to DOT they were very helpful. Or they fudged a permit.

My dad told me that it's possible to get permits by the load from certain places. I think there are a lot of non-permanent options to haul heavy, but you'd have to call DOT to hear what they are. Most of us go with the annual options for weight based off of the spec of our trailers, but there are always exceptions...Seems strange that cargill allows it though, because I thought their company policies for weight doesn't allow for temporary permits. But as with a lot of things...I am not a SME.
