Boycott Loves & Pilot,& Flying J

i have been doing this for years,even called my senator. Last friday bought fuel in Copan, OK north of Tulsa for 2.49/9, Tulsa Flying J was 2.86/9. Also bought at Wichita,KS. exit 13 on I-135,2.61/9, new Love's in McPherson,Ks 47 miles north was 2.96/9. No way I pull into a "major" truck stop for fuel.

i only get fuel there if i am getting close to pushing . i hate pushing the truck its hard to steer and lots of other technical issues while you are pushing. even then i will only crank 40 gal to get me somewhere else. I haven't fueled at a big stop for 11 months. what they are doing is totally illegal. The crooks have it rigged for the big companies and i kinda like the drivers that i interact with at my small joints. most are courteous and most would ask questions before beating you up. The atmosphere at the big joints is not for me.

Honestly, and I say this with great compassion...The bigger truck stops could care less about the smaller companies and the owner operators.. It shows... I preach this alot and I'm quite sure my feelings are just from me waking up on the wrong side of the bed... Let's take this for example... Personally, I've been trucking for 19 years.. and just the showers alone were once JUST $5.00... withour fueling... Now, they're $13.00 for non fuelers... So, in essence, they're telling you, that in order to receive the perks and discounts that we offer, you have to purchase our fuel... at least 50 gallons... that is insane... When you take into consideration of how much water you use for a shower then $13.00 is no where near considerable. I agree it should cost something.. but NOT that much... Next, I live in Louisiana... I can fuel at mom and pop truckstops for an average of at least .20 less than the these bigger guys.. and they don't move near the amount of fuel that the bigger truckstops do... but they offer better pricing... Now, I am AWARE that you have negotiating power when you agree to purchase a certain amount of fuel per month.. but that only benefits the larger companies. I see this as a bullying tactic.. If you want to get the fuel for this price, then you have to buy this many gallons from me... So, while I do believe that boycotting works in certain instances, it won't work in this scenario... because people ARE getting the fuel cheaper... just NOT you nor I... we're just not BIG enough to negotiate in their eyes.. but hey!!!! that's the American way!!! in theory, the smaller guy needs the help but they don't see it like that.. they'd rather KNOW they have x number of companies coming in to fuel for x amount of PROJECTED profit each month... It's sad, but this is the world we live in...

So, what do I do? I fuel at the mom and pop stations when I'm in the area and when I need a shower, I stop and grab 50 gallons at one of the OTHER guys to aleviate spending $13.00 for some hot water... It's sad.. but what else can you do. If I had a fleet and had the buying power that the larger companies did then I could take advantage of their lower pricing schemes..

Just yesterday I saw two places bet ft smith & ok city where Loves was 288 and across the street was 2.27. If the guy next door can buy it for that & make a profit, surely the big guys could too. That is ridiculous

You may be able to find cheaper fuel ..but have you ever heard of Cetane? Same as octane but for diesel and there is no law making them publish the cetane rating..one company i hauled diesel for would pick up transit mix..( where the pipe line would separate the different products with a slug of water..and take x amount of product on each end of the water plug) and they would heat it up..evaporating the water..and the gasoline would rise and diesel at the lower end..( same way the refineries do it with crude oil) and would sell these two products...you can today buy this diesel for about a dime cheaper than the majors..but you wont get the best of mpg..or the gas..you can find it cheaper..but law makes them post the octane rating..of 85...so you will get a great deal.....but you can watch your gas gauge move towards empty.. so just how can that place down the street be so much cheaper?something has to give..one is smaller profit...another is buying your fuel in a city or county thats isnt robbing you with unkown to you of local taxes..example washoe county (reno sparks nevada ) has about 40 cents local taxes..or they buy cheaper cetaned diesel...you may think you are getting a better deal..you might be..or are you really?

Understood. I simply don't like having to belong to a "club" in order to get the secret price. Whether it's fuel or groceries etc. Not complaining, justing saying.

This was quite a few years ago.. but best fuel for mph was a truck stop just west of texas border on 10 in new mexico. .. i think it was the national truck stop..when i was hauling heavy haul.. flying j..loves..pilot was the least mph and power...TA and Petro was better..most of the time when a fuel truck picks up a load of diesel at the pipeline or refinery..it comes off the community rack..so unless someplace adds additives at the drop point..the diesel is the same...and then theres transit mix. And there who knows..
