How do you know what is wrong? Could be simple? Could be cleared and limp home? Dealer is going to be honest? Right. You brain surgeons running deletes that can't go to dealer? What do you do? I would never leave home without diagnosis equipment or proper tools, even for my older trucks. I'm not selling something, but trying to understand the logic.
If you own 1-5 trks and can't repair a light correctly how do you survive? No diagnostic on board, and I mean real diagnostic computer?
I'm not selling anything just trying to understand.

If you are familiar with RAWZE, he says the same thing. Get a laptop with Cummins Insite. Worst case scenario, do a forced regen, and get home. I don't know how you guys w/5 or so trucks do it. Employees don't have any skin in the game. To easy to just park on the side of the road, and say..."Hey Art, truck broke down, I'm going to 🛌🏻...🤷♂️"

I think the brain surgeons you are talking about have figured out their deleted trucks no longer need diagnostics on board because they are deleted...😳 |

I am not a brain surgeon. I just did corrective surgery on truck 1 time and it no longer needs diagnostic work.

Why would a delete not require diagnostic information? Deleted with a fault code cannot go to dealership. So how do you know what is wrong?

Mine is capable of giving me a fault code by holding the cruise set button down for 2 seconds with the cruise off. But haven't needed to use it for some strange reason sinc it had a little surgery...😎 The theory that the dealership won't work on it is fake news to a large degree. It depends on what the problem is ; |

What was the problem with it? My dealership will do anything except go into the motor like cam, pistons, liners, ect. they will run the rack do rods & mains, replace injectors, and anyhing bolted to the motor like A/C alternator, starter, oil pump fuel pump, air compressor. I wouldn't let the dealership go deep into the motor anyway. I'd use the guy who built the motor. I'm not running 120,000 miles a year all over the country, and only own the one I drive, so I don't have to worry about anyone else tearing it up. Last week the bearing in the idler pulley went out while on the road, I rolled right in to the local Peterbilt dealer and they had me going in a couple of hours with no issues. If it had been serious, I think with a little googling and asking around, I could get work done on the road if need be. I'd start with the people I bought the parts from, surely they could give me a few names of shops in the area. I try to stay in the same part of the country and have built a list of people I'd try in the areas I typically run if the need arises. Worst case scenario, I'd put it on a hook and brought home to be worked on. It's definately not a perfect scenario, but with the right support in place at home, it works fine for me. I understand that everyone's situation is different, but for me the juice was definately worth the squeeze! The truck runs stronger, cooler, and is less worry. I would do it again in a heartbeat and not think twice.

I cary around a super computer that does my navigation, logging, and trouble shooting. It works completely wirelessly and runs on pure truck stop junk food. I run a B model Cat that is notoriously reliable. These engines have never had a single ECM failure in the history of the entire engine world wide. Q

I guess I understand why they don't want the liability of working on a motor that is out of original specs. What did you end up doing? |

I have a computer that I carry for wabco, Detroit, cat. The com box required to communicate to the ecm is approx$800 and I have $3500 in computer.
Expensive but we get trks towed to shop for minor problems but thousand of dollars in towing plus lost time. 1 trk $1800 tow bill because truck was low on coolant. Lot of them for batteries.

Who the hell would get towed far enough to warrant an $1800 tow bill for a "low coolant" shut down? You can't throw a dead 🐈⬛ without hitting a truck repair shop these days. Any 2-bit code reader would tell you that fault...🤷♂️

I ran deleted trucks that broke down a lot. I never had a problem getting them worked on. Some dealerships won't. But then I run midwest so I'm not really in any wacko states . |

Dealer is not the only person with a laptop. Deleted truck does require diag equipment just like any other truck. It simply has the agr/def/dpf ... Deleted. Everything else is still there to diagnose and even that deleted part requires fixing sometimes. |

Yes I carry diagnostic equipment, but I'm very happy to report I never have to use it any longer. I tried the newer truck route, then when it started falling apart I did the whole delete thing, then I realized I have a truck no one will work on!!!! So I bought a one owner 05 pete done full rebuild, new clutch, trans, rears and now I'm trucking with no issues,no lights and no guaranteed 5,000 dollar shop trips!!!! And a c15 in a Pete can be worked on almost anywhere no problem, now I actually sleep at night not worrying what light or sensor is gonna shut me down today!!! |
