We get a lot of hang ups when sourcing trucks for lumber loads. What's up?

What are you paying on a per mile rate?

I'm passing them $2/mile and up. I got a MN to WI load for 2.39 right now.

that one probably isn't moving because it's to short of a haul. $2.39 isn't worth the time. on shorter runs you have to pay more per mile. I don't move the truck for less than $500 and thats 0-50miles that load will sit there until someone is looking to go specifically that destination in Wisconsin. Also are you requiring tarping? if so tack on another $200 this time of the year. who wants to stand out in the snow and cold dragging heavy tarps? I sure wouldn't.

$2.39 is not to bad depending on dead head... we dont haul anything under $3.80 lumber...hoppers $4.10 on 25 tons or 1000 bushels anything over we do mileage on tonnage get our tonnage rate and add to if we over that...everybody happy with rates and we stay busy 7 days a week..15 trucks...so $2.39 a mile needs to have supper high paying load for back haul bc deadhead fuel labor all that kills profit not caught in breakdowns and toll roads of needed.

We have moved lumber and building products as a brokerage for 19 years. It is not sexy and rates do not pay "Unicorns & Rainbows" as one rep says. I tell most carriers that it is a "utility load" to get you somewhere you want to be, out of somewhere with no freight or to get you home.

The carriers that hang up on you are the same ones that will "deadhead before taking that rate", cannot spell customer service and won't be in business in 5 years because they don't even know what it takes to run a truck. A guy don't like my rates, I am not mad. He can take it, leave it or find his own customers.

Too many people with no manners and no professionalism. A little commonm courtesy goes a long way in what is a "tough business on a good day'!

That load is no tarp and 530 miles. The price doesn't seem to bad. And it has flexible pickup and drop off. If anyone wants it, let me know.

I work for a whole lumber co. They hired me to find trucks for various loads. We also have taken on a warehouse of our own and store materials for other customers. I have some great trucks that know taking a 20 mile load (local to them) at $250, I will also give them the longer hauls to get their trucks back home for a decent rate. They don't kill me on my short stuff or light loads and I don't take advantage of them. It is a give and take. I know not everyone in the business has my mind set. But I am old school and believe you get what you give. I would not ask something of anyone that I would not do myself. Just yesterday, spent over 2 hours assisting in unloading a truck after hours so he could make his next appointment. Many have lost the old ways of helping each other when possible. Everyone is take take take with no room or mind to give.
